How leaving a gift in your will can change the future for young people experiencing homelessness

You can make a difference to young people facing the dangers of becoming homeless by leaving Depaul UK a gift in your Will. Gifts in Wills fund our work with young people facing homelessness and the problems that drive it, including relationship breakdown, poor mental health and unemployment.

Homelessness is a complex problem and tackling it requires dynamic and innovative solutions for the long term. For over 30 years Depaul UK has developed and delivered prevention support services to young people, every day our prevention teams:

• work in schools with children and teenagers to help them understand and avoid the triggers of homelessness to help them to stay safe
• work with young people living in our supported accommodation to help improve their wellbeing and provide them access to education and training and help into work
• work with young people and their families providing mediation support so they can overcome conflict and stay together at home
• continue to build Depaul UK’s network of Nightstop volunteers who offer a warm welcome and safe place to stay to young people in immediate crisis.

Andrew Harvie-Clark explains why he’s leaving Depaul UK a gift in his Will.

“After retiring I volunteered for the Dorset Youth Offending Team, working with young people aged 10-18. After they had been in court they would meet their victim, supported by their legal guardians, case worker and two members of the public, like me.

“The purpose was to help them understand the effect of their crime on the victim and on society and prevent them reoffending.

“It opened my eyes to the many problems facing young people today and in particular homelessness. I’ve left Depaul UK a gift in my Will because I want to support young people experiencing homelessness to find accommodation and get them the help, they need to get a job and become self-sufficient.

“It makes me feel so much better knowing I can help young people to get out of homelessness and back into society.”
