Young Person Coordinator Support Volunteer

Depaul UK has delivered services to young people at risk of homelessness in South Tyneside since 2009, and works closely with several partners, including members of the South Tyneside Homelessness Consortium and across the local authority. A critical success factor of all roles is to establish effective working relationships with existing Depaul services and our partners.
Main responsibilities and tasks

Aim of the volunteer role:

To support the Young Person’s Coordinator.

Main Tasks:

  • To attend Induction and support sessions
  • To adhere to the terms of Depaul UK’s policies
  • Support delivery of detailed discussions with family members, statutory agencies, landlords and others
  • Assist administration multi agency/HAPPS meetings creating agenda, recording and circulating minutes
  • Young person assessment support and ongoing efficient help to implement support plans through 1-1 appointments
  • Support YPC with partnership building and networking
  • Helping young people through advocacy and encourage client involvement
  • Use a variety of software platforms for data entry and administration support

Training and commitment

Induction and training:

All volunteers with receive a volunteer induction and an induction to specific roles and projects. Volunteers will be given access to learning and development opportunities in line with their role.

Commitment:

2 days per week with a minimum of 6 hours per week on a Wednesday between 9am and 5pm, additional volunteering hours Tuesday and/or Thursdays is desirable. A commitment to a minimum of 6 months volunteering in this role.

If you have not been an active in your volunteering for 3 months, we will contact you to see if you wish to continue and if you have not been active for 6 months your volunteering role will be ended. You could then re-apply for any volunteering at Depaul again going through the full volunteer recruitment process.

South Tyneside Project Support Volunteer

Depaul UK has delivered services to young people at risk of homelessness in South Tyneside since 2009, and works closely with several partners, including members of the South Tyneside Homelessness Consortium and across the local authority. A critical success factor of all roles is to establish effective working relationships with existing Depaul services and our partners.
Main responsibilities

Aim of the volunteer role:

To support the South Tyneside team to deliver services. This volunteering role is for a male volunteer as there is a gender gap within the team. Applications from people who have experienced homelessness and or other challenging life experience are encouraged.

Main Tasks:

  • To attend Induction and support sessions
  • To adhere to the terms of Depaul UK’s policies
  • Support delivery of initial young person assessments
  • Shadow and accompany staff to client and community appointments
  • Help with signposting to other agencies
  • Spend time with young people giving them an opportunity to talk by going for a walk or visiting local amenities
  • Helping young people through advocacy and encourage client involvement
  • Use a variety of software platforms for data entry and administration support
Skills and knowledge

Highly confident in communication skills with ability to treat clients with dignity and respect with the ability to remain calm and objective when dealing with difficult or sensitive situations. A passion to help others, ambition to learn new skills, commitment to the work of Depaul UK. Creativity to engage young people and sustain relationships. Commitment to volunteering in a manner which promotes diversity and equality ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and dignity and no one suffers from discrimination. Applications from people with experience of living with the challenges faced by Depaul clients are encouraged.
