Brave the elements AND SLEEP outside for the night

Sleeping out can never replicate what it’s like for a young person to spend a night on the streets, but it can give you an idea of the discomfort and cold experienced by so many young people at risk of homelessness. If you’ve decided to sleepout to raise money, that’s brilliant news. Let us know if we can support you by emailing: fundraising@depaulcharity.org.uk.

In the meantime, we’ve put together a handy little checklist of things to think about:

Where will I sleepout?

The simplest place is your garden. Safe, secure, and you don’t need permission. If you do use other locations, make sure you get permission from the right people. This could be from the council or the landowner. If you’re a school or youth group, you could also consider a Sleep In!

What if it rains?

The only certainty is unpredictability! Make sure you’re prepared for rain. Bring waterproofs, layers, and somewhere to take shelter. If you’re using a tent you can hide out should the heavens open. If not, is there somewhere you can go if the weather take a turn?

When should I do it?

Set a date and time that work for you, making sure you have enough time to get ready and reach your fundraising target.

How do I set up my fundraising page?

Head over to our Just Giving page to set up your Sleepout Fundraiser. Set a fundraising target and share your page with your family and friends. You can post photos on social media (don’t forget to tag us in) and let everyone know how it went. Sharing news and photos of your event helps us to encourage others to do the same.

Yes, I want to set up my Sleepout Fundraiser

And finally, what about snacks?

Whoever you are sleeping out with, make sure you’ve got enough food and drink to get you through to the morning.

Thank you so much for being brave and taking on this challenge for young people at risk of homelessness.  🧡
