Chris left Afghanistan in 2021 under incredibly difficult circumstances and arrived in the UK seeking safety. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When he joined us at Milnrow, his dream was simple\u2014to play cricket in England. That dream has not only come true but has also inspired everyone here.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Chris\u2019s connection with Milnrow Cricket Club began in March of last year when he first visited the ground with his progression coach, Allan, who has supported him every step of the way. \u201cI remember Chris walking around the ground in complete silence,\u201d the chairperson shared. \u201cHe spent ten minutes just staring at the scoreboard. You could see how much it meant to him. Since then, he\u2019s become an integral part of the club, always eager to learn, improve, and embrace the team spirit that Milnrow Cricket Club is known for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One memorable highlight was during a match when Chris fearlessly faced a seasoned bowler and hit a perfect six straight back over his head. \u201cThat shot went viral within the club,\u201d said Allan. \u201cChris watches the replay at least ten times a day. Moments like this show how far he\u2019s come, not just as a cricketer but as a person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Receiving the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Spirit of Cricket<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> award was an emotional moment for Chris. \u201cCricket has always been my passion,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I came to England, I didn\u2019t know if I would ever get the chance to play again. Milnrow Cricket Club gave me more than just that chance\u2014they gave me a family. This award is a reminder of how far I\u2019ve come, and it inspires me to keep going. I want to keep improving, play at the highest level I can, and help others the way I\u2019ve been helped.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The chairperson concluded his speech by celebrating Chris\u2019s courage and determination. \u201cChris embodies what this club stands for. He\u2019s shown us what it means to take chances, embrace opportunities, and overcome incredible odds. This award is not just for his contributions on the pitch but for the inspiration he brings to all of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Chris\u2019s journey to this point has been nothing short of remarkable. Forced to flee Afghanistan due to political instability, he arrived in the UK after a long and challenging journey. With our support and his progression coach, Allan, Chris has been able to access education, find stability, and pursue his passion for cricket.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhen I first met Chris, he was quiet, unsure, and struggling with everything he had been through,\u201d Allan said. \u201cBut the moment he talked about cricket, his eyes lit up. Now, he\u2019s thriving\u2014at college, on the pitch, and in his personal growth. Seeing him recognised tonight is such a proud moment. Chris has such a bright future ahead of him, anything he sets his mind to, he achieves.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Spirit of Cricket<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> award not only celebrates Chris\u2019s sporting achievements but also his integration into the community and his embodiment of resilience, teamwork, and hope.
